The Great American Hoax is an episode of the TV show The 20th Century Fox Hour.

It was the last TV play written by Paddy Chayefsky. It was based on a story of his which had been filmed as As Young as You Feel (1951). It was originally going to be called The Age of Retirement.[1]

Ed Wynn was signed to play the lead in a rare non-comedy role. Filming took place in March 1957.[2]
